Pakistan Railways has announced the restoration of the Khushhal Khan Khattak Express, a long-distance train service connecting far-flung regions of Sindh, southern Punjab, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The train will resume operations from April 25, marking its return after a five-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
The economy-class service runs between Karachi and Peshawar via the Kotri-Attock Main Line, covering 1,512 kilometres in approximately 34 hours and 15 minutes.
This is the only express train that directly links key cities such as Larkana, Dadu, Kot Addu, Layyah, Mianwali, Bhakkar, and Dera Ghazi Khan to Karachi and Peshawar.
Railway officials say the route has been fully prepared for relaunch, with improved comfort for passengers and a focus on affordability.
The train is seen as a vital connection for underserved communities along its route, offering a lifeline to remote areas. Major stations on the journey include Karachi, Kotri, Sehwan Sharif, Larkana, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Rajanpur, and Peshawar Cantt.
