LAHORE:

The city witnessed a spike in suicide cases on Thursday, with at least three individuals taking their own lives within just 12 hours, underscoring growing concerns over mental health and socio-economic stress.

According to Edhi Foundation, the first incident occurred in the morning when a 30-year-old woman, Nasira Bibi, wife of Naveed, died by suicide at her residence in Ghaziabad, Tajpura.

Officials said she had been struggling with domestic distress.

Later in the day, 19-year-old Faheem Zia was found dead by hanging in the North Cantonment area. Hours later, another case was reported from Harbanspura's Shalimar Housing Society, where 28-year-old Bashir Ahmed ended his life in a similar manner.

In separate incidents, the bodies of two unidentified men were recovered—one approximately 45 years old from Nawab Town and Factory Area, and another 65-year-old homeless man near Choki Sue Asal. There were no initial signs of foul play in these cases.

All bodies were shifted to the city morgue by Edhi ambulances following necessary legal procedures.

The sudden rise in suicide cases has sparked concern among citizens and health professionals alike.
