Taking responsibility: EDO municipal services suspended for ‘negligence’

The EDO was served with a charge sheet, which called the department ‘careless’ and ‘inefficient’.

KARACHI: Karachi’s DCO suspended the EDO for the Municipal Services Group of Offices, Muhammad Masood Alam, on the charges of negligence and mismanagement.

Alam was transferred immediately and was served with a charge sheet. The Municipal Services Group of Offices is charged with neglecting to immediately drain water from roads and clean silt from storm water drains. It also mentioned that most of the staff was absent from emergency duty.

The charge sheet used strong words, calling the municipal office ‘inefficient’ and ‘careless’. Strict disciplinary action against the EDO was requested.

For his part, Alam told The Express Tribune that DCO Muhammad Hussein Syed “was after him”. He said that the municipal services department had no money to clean the storm water drains or to buy fuel for machinery. “I was on the roads with the DCO for three days but I alone have been held responsible,” said Alam.
