Justin Bieber shared a meme on his Instagram Story Wednesday that has drawn attention due to its timing following Selena Gomez’s engagement announcement.
The post featured a scene from The Lord of the Rings, where the character Gollum gazes at a gold ring with intense emotion. The caption over the image read, “Girls on social media when they get engaged.”

The meme appeared just months after Gomez confirmed her engagement to music producer Benny Blanco in December 2024. She showed off a custom marquise diamond ring designed by Blanco in collaboration with jewellery designers Abril Barret.

While Bieber did not reference Gomez directly, the post went viral online due to their history. Gomez and Bieber dated on and off from 2010 until officially ending their relationship in March 2018. Later that year, Bieber married Hailey Baldwin, now Hailey Bieber. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Jack, in August 2024.
Shortly after Bieber's post, social media users began reacting to the perceived connection, criticising the singer’s timing and intent. One user commented, “Such an immature omg, he’s a FATHER of a baby, it’s been almost a decade when will he get over it.” Another wrote, “Oh this is embarrassing. Mind you he started crashing out after Selena’s engagement.”
In addition to the meme, Bieber remains under public scrutiny following a series of recent appearances that have prompted ongoing concern. Since early January 2025, fans have expressed worry over his well-being after he appeared disengaged and unkempt in several public outings.
These concerns extend to his relationship, with speculation around the stability of his marriage to Hailey Bieber. In response to circulating rumours earlier this year, the couple spoke ut and denied theat their was any truth to such speculations.
