Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande returned to CinemaCon to debut the first footage from Wicked: For Good, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2024 musical hit. The cast and director Jon M. Chu revealed the trailer during Universal’s presentation, offering the first look at where the story continues after the cliffhanger of the original film.
“It has been quite a year,” Erivo said, referencing Wicked's critical and commercial success. The first film earned $433 million at the domestic box office and received 10 Oscar nominations. Now, with Wicked: For Good set to release on November 21, 2025, the sequel promises an even deeper dive into the world of Oz.
Before screening the new footage, Erivo and Grande addressed the audience. “I promise less waterworks this time,” said Erivo, referring to their previous viral press tour. Grande disagreed, replying, “I already have our tissues packed.” The humorous exchange reignited interest among fans, many of whom fondly recalled the duo’s emotionally charged promotional appearances for the original film.
The trailer itself features Elphaba (Erivo) on the run from the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum), Glinda (Grande) struggling with her public persona, and Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) caught between loyalties. Snippets from the song “No Good Deed” and a brief reunion scene between the two witches added to the excitement. Additional scenes tease Elphaba’s campaign to expose the Wizard and crossover moments from The Wizard of Oz, including Dorothy and her companions on the yellow brick road.
While Grande and Erivo’s appearance drew praise, shortly after the screening, plot details and visuals began to emerge online, with attendees posting images and scene descriptions across social media.
