A Texas high school student-athlete was fatally stabbed during a track and field championship on April 2 in Frisco, following a dispute over seating, according to police and family members.

Austin Metcalf, a junior at Memorial High School in Frisco ISD, was attending the UIL District 11-5A championship meet at Kuykendall Stadium when an altercation broke out with Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old senior from Centennial High School. The incident occurred around 10 a.m., Frisco police said.

According to Jeff Metcalf, Austin’s father, the dispute began after Anthony was told he was sitting in the wrong seat. Anthony allegedly responded by drawing a knife and stabbing Austin in the chest, as his twin brother Hunter watched in shock.

Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, including CPR and blood administration, but the 17-year-old was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Frisco police confirmed that Anthony has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He remains in custody at the Collin County Jail with no bond set.

Hunter Metcalf said he rushed to help his brother after the stabbing but was unable to save him. “I looked at my brother and I’m not going to talk about the rest,” he told WFAA.

Jeff Metcalf rushed to the stadium after receiving a call from Hunter. He later described the scene and expressed forgiveness for the alleged attacker. “He murdered my son by stabbing him in the heart… You know what, I already forgive this person. God takes care of things,” he told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.

Austin was remembered as a standout linebacker, team MVP, and a 4.0 GPA student who aspired to play college football. A GoFundMe launched by his father describes Austin as “a bright young man with a great future ahead,” remembered for his leadership, character, and love for football.
