The metropolis is experiencing extreme heat during the Eidul Fitr celebrations, with temperatures expected to hit 41°C on the third day of festivities, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The PMD has forecast hot and dry conditions over the next 24 hours, with mercury likely to range between 39°C and 41°C. Winds blowing from the north at a speed of 8 km/h carry a humidity level of 53%.
Officials had earlier warned that the country would experience above-normal temperatures during Eid, with a potential increase of 2°C to 4°C in various regions.
The Met Office has advised residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, and conserve water to mitigate the effects of the rising heat.
According to the PMD’s latest advisory, Karachi’s temperatures are expected to range between 39-41°C on Wednesday, 40-42°C on Thursday, and 40-42°C on Friday.
Meanwhile, temperature readings across major Pakistani cities today are as follows:
-
Islamabad: 7°C
-
Lahore: 10°C
-
Karachi: 19°C
-
Peshawar: 9°C
-
Quetta: 1°C
-
Gilgit: 0°C
-
Murree: 3°C
-
Muzaffarabad: 8°C
On the other hand, residents of Lahore and other parts of Punjab are experiencing a steady rise in temperatures as dry weather grips the province, according to PMD.
Officials said on Wednesday that no rainfall is expected over the next two to three days. The dry spell is likely to continue, increasing the intensity of heat, particularly on the third day of Eid.
In Lahore, temperatures are forecast to range between 17°C and 33°C. The gradual increase has already prompted greater use of cooling appliances in both homes and offices.
“Warm and dry conditions are likely to persist, with no immediate sign of rainfall,” a spokesperson from the Met Office said.
