Three men lost their lives while three others suffered serious injuries in a clash over love marriage in the federal capital's posh private housing society Phase 3 in the limits of Lohi Bher police station.
According to the police, Shahzad Mughal, who married a girl against her family's wishes, fled the scene leaving his friends behind. His two friends were killed in the clash.
Mughal, a Rawalpindi resident, had performed a court marriage two months ago with S*, the daughter of Hanif Qureshi, a petroleum businessman. Her family was deeply upset by her decision.
On the night of the incident, a jirga was convened at the girl's house in an attempt at reconciliation. However, a heated argument erupted between the girl's brothers and Mughal's friends, escalating into indiscriminate gunfire.
On receiving information about the incident, the police reached the scene. They shifted the bodies and the injured to PIMS Hospital, where the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their heirs after completing medico-legal formalities. Three injured, including Najam Bhatti and Yasir Satti are still undergoing treatment.
Police suggested the incident appears to be a case of honour-related violence. Investigations are ongoing.
