Pokémon TCG’s Destined Rivals: Release date, new cards, and must-have pulls

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is set to release its highly anticipated Destined Rivals expansion on May 30, 2025.

This upcoming set introduces Team Rocket’s Pokémon alongside Trainer’s Pokémon from iconic characters like Ethan, Cynthia, Misty, Marnie, and Steven Stone.

Combining cards from Japan’s Heat Wave Arena and The Glory of Team Rocket, Destined Rivals features 83 Team Rocket-themed cards, 17 Pokémon ex, including 10 Trainer’s Pokémon ex, 23 illustration rare cards, 11 special illustration rare cards, and six hyper rare gold-etched cards.

Among the most anticipated additions is Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex, boasting 280 HP and an ability requiring at least four Team Rocket Pokémon in play to activate its Deletion Sphere attack, dealing 280 damage. Another highlight is Ethan’s Ho-Oh ex, which offers a powerful Fire Energy acceleration ability. Cynthia’s Garchomp ex provides additional hand-drawing potential, while Misty’s Pokémon cards utilize discard effects for damage output. The set also features Dondozo ex, capable of dealing up to 300 damage when heavily damaged.

With the Pokémon TCG transitioning to the Mega Evolutions era later in 2025, Destined Rivals could be the final standard set of the Scarlet & Violet era. Due to the high demand for Pokémon TCG products and the growing scalper market, this set is expected to sell out quickly. Pre-release events will take place two weeks prior to launch at local game stores.
