Eddie Jordan, former Formula 1 team owner and prominent motorsport figure, has passed away at the age of 76. A statement from his family confirmed that he died peacefully in Cape Town on March 20, surrounded by loved ones.

Jordan, best known for founding and managing Jordan Grand Prix from 1991 to 2005, played a significant role in F1, giving opportunities to drivers such as Damon Hill, Ralf Schumacher, and Giancarlo Fisichella. He remained involved in the sport as a broadcaster for BBC and Channel 4 and was instrumental in Adrian Newey’s recent transfer from Red Bull to Aston Martin.

Despite publicly sharing his battle with an aggressive form of cancer last year, Jordan remained active in motorsport and business. Even while undergoing treatment, he played a key role in Adrian Newey’s move to Aston Martin and led a consortium that saved the rugby club London Irish from administration.

Tributes poured in from the F1 community. Sky Sports analyst Martin Brundle, who raced for Jordan in Formula 3 and F1, said, "The sport will be poorer without him because of what he achieved and what he stood for." Many in the F1 world echoed Brundle’s sentiments, including F1 President Stefano Domenicali, who described Jordan as a "wonderful human being" whose presence in the sport will be deeply missed.

Jordan’s influence on Formula 1 goes beyond his team’s success. As a visionary team owner, broadcaster, and mentor, he helped shape the careers of many legendary drivers and left an indelible mark on the sport. His contributions to motorsport will be remembered for generations.
