
Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his condolences to Pakistan’s leadership following the tragic terrorist attack on a passenger train in Balochistan.
In a statement released by the Russian Embassy in Pakistan on X, he praised the courage and professionalism of Pakistani security forces who successfully rescued hostages.
"Please accept my profound condolences on the tragic aftermath of the terrorist attack on a passenger train in the Province of Balochistan," Putin wrote in his message to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
“We resolutely condemn this brutal and cynical crime, whose victims included a large number of women and children,” he continued, underscoring Russia’s firm stance against terrorism.
Putin further commended the "courage and high professionalism of Pakistani military and law enforcement officers, whose decisive actions helped save hundreds of lives." He highlighted Russia’s ongoing commitment to enhancing cooperation with Pakistan in the fight against terrorism.
"Russia remains committed to strengthening cooperation with its Pakistani partners in combating all forms of terrorism," Putin added, reaffirming his nation's resolve to stand by Pakistan in its efforts to combat militant threats.
The Russian president also expressed his sympathy to the victims' families and extended his wishes for the "speedy recovery to all those who have suffered at the hands of militants."
Security forces stormed the hijacked Jaffar Express on Wednesday, bringing a dramatic end to a 30-hour siege in the rugged Bolan area of Balochistan, killing all 33 terrorists, while successfully rescuing more than 300 passengers.
Lt-Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the chief military spokesperson, revealed that 21 hostages lost their lives during the day-long standoff.
However, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) director general firmly said that no civilians were harmed in the final rescue operation carried out by the armed forces.
