Whoopi Goldberg sparked a surprised reaction from transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney during a recent episode of The View. The discussion, which began with California Governor Gavin Newsom's remarks about transgender athletes in women's sports being "deeply unfair," quickly shifted when Goldberg asked Mulvaney for her opinion on the matter.

Mulvaney, who came out as trans in 2022, distanced herself from the issue, explaining that she isn’t an athlete and hasn't participated in sports since childhood. Instead, she deferred to Schuyler Bailar, a female-to-male transgender NCAA Division 1 swimmer, who criticized Newsom’s comments as “irresponsible, cowardly, and despicable.”

Goldberg continued the conversation by trying to relate the struggles of the trans community to those faced by women. She argued that the idea of women athletes being weak is a misconception, emphasizing, “Have you seen female athletes? They know what they’re doing!” This comment left Mulvaney visibly surprised, as the camera cut to her awkwardly smiling in response.

Mulvaney was on the show to promote her memoir, Paper Doll: Notes from a Late Bloomer, which discusses her transition journey and the challenges she faced in her first year as a transgender woman. The book also covers the backlash she received after her partnership with Bud Light in 2023, which led to one of the biggest boycotts in American history.

Despite the controversy, Mulvaney has amassed a huge online following, with over 9 million followers on TikTok and 2 million on Instagram.
