The Bahawalpur education board allegedly sent less question papers to the matriculation examination centres than the required number.
According to sources, descriptive question papers were placed in envelopes of the objective paper, leading to confusion among the supervisory staff and protest by students.
However, timely intervention by the board authorities saved the students who feared that they might lose an academic year because of the confusion.
Complaints were received during the English and Biology examinations of the Bahawalpur Board's Matriculation Annual Examination about shortage of question papers in several centres.
The chairman and controller of the board managed to bring additional question papers from other centres and distribution among the candidates.
In the examinations scheduled on March 4 and 6, 20 question papers of biology were found short in the Government Girls High School Faqir Wali, 30 Government High School Satellite Town Chishtian and 60 in Government High School 121/M Chishtian.
At the centre set up in Government High School Jainpur, descriptive question papers were found in the envelopes of the on=bjective section.
The supervisory staff informed the board office about the situation.
The board authorities collected extra question papers from other centres and distributed them in the affected centres.
The supervisory staff members said the staff of the secret press appeared to be responsible for the negligence.
They said the number of question papers should be checked to save the students from inconvenience.
When contacted, a board official said a few papers were short, which had been collected from other centres to ensure that the students could solve them.
However, the spokesperson for the Bahawalpur Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education said no such complaint had been received from the candidates, but the divisional commissioner and chairman of the board had taken notice of the matter and an investigation was under way.
The spokesperson said action would be taken once the facts would come to light.
