The latest season of Love Is Blind ended with controversy as Sara Carton rejected Ben Mezzenga at the altar, citing their differences on politics and religion.

During the season finale, Carton explained her concerns after discovering Mezzenga’s lack of engagement with issues like Black Lives Matter. “I asked him about Black Lives Matter,” she told her family after the wedding. “And I’m no expert, but when I asked him about it, he’s like, ‘I guess I never really thought too much about it.’ That affected me.”

Carton also questioned Mezzenga about his church’s stance on LGBTQ+ issues after revealing that her sister is gay. “And he said he didn’t know, so I watched a sermon online, about sexual identity, and it was traditional. I told that to Ben, and he didn’t really have much to say about it,” she said.

Earlier in the season, Mezzenga admitted to Carton that he had largely avoided politics. “I’m kind of ignorant towards that stuff,” he said. “Like, I didn’t vote in the last election. As long as I don’t know, it’s not gonna, you know, do much.”

The moment quickly sparked debate online, with fans discussing whether political and religious differences should be dealbreakers in relationships.

At the altar, Carton told Mezzenga, “I love you so much, but I’ve always wanted a partner to be on the same wavelength.” before walking out of the venue.
