Former President Donald Trump made an unexpected remark about NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who remain stranded at the International Space Station due to spacecraft delays.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump joked about their situation, saying, “They’ve been left up there—I hope they like each other, maybe they love each other, I don’t know.” He then added a comment about Williams' hair, noting, "I see the woman with the wild hair, good, solid hair she’s got. There’s no kidding, there’s no games with her hair.”
Wilmore and Williams were originally scheduled for a one-week mission aboard Boeing’s Starliner capsule in June 2024. However, technical failures left them stranded in orbit, awaiting a SpaceX Crew-9 replacement before their expected return later this month.
Trump also claimed President Joe Biden mishandled the situation, stating, “Biden was embarrassed by what happened, and he said, ‘leave them up there.’ I would have said, ‘If you’re embarrassed, you got to get them out.’”
He then praised Elon Musk, saying, “Elon is right now preparing a ship to go up and get them.” NASA, however, has not confirmed any independent SpaceX rescue mission but assured that the astronauts’ safe return is already in progress.
