JUI-F says not part of opposition alliance

Maulana Fazlur Rehman's JUI-F has clarified that it attended a conference of opposition parties as a delegate and that it did not sign the declaration issued after the confab.

A nascent alliance of opposition parties—Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ain-e-Pakistan (TTAP)--held a two-day conference in Islamabad amid restrictions imposed by authorities on political gatherings in the capital apparently due to an ongoing sporting event.

Talking to the media after attending the conference, JUI-F Senator Kamran Murtaza said his party is not a part of the opposition alliance.

"We have not signed the declaration issued after the conference, which we attended in personal capacity as an observer," he said.

Later, the JUI-F spokesperson, Bilal Ghauri, also issued a statement stating that the party did not sign the declaration. "We have not joined any alliance. We were invited to the conference where we presented our point of view," he said.
