PM to address Pakistan's Champions Trophy exit: Sana

Rana Sanaullah points out that many officials were unaware of their responsibilities.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s political and public affairs advisor, Rana Sanaullah, stated that the government would take notice of Pakistan's humiliating defeats in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and their early exit from the tournament.

In a conversation with a private TV channel, Rana Sanaullah, a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N), explained that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would personally address the performance of the national team. He would raise the matter in the cabinet and parliament regarding the cricket-related issues.

Rana Sanaullah also mentioned that while the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is an independent body and can make its own decisions, he would personally urge Prime Minister Shehbaz to raise the issue in the cabinet and parliament. He further stated that this issue was not limited to just the appointment of a chairman.

When asked about the salaries of PCB officials, Rana Sanaullah highlighted that high-ranking officials are being paid up to Rs5 million per month, which has been confirmed by the media.

He pointed out that many officials were unaware of their responsibilities and were being paid without fulfilling their duties.

Regarding the perks and privileges of PCB officials, Rana Sanaullah expressed astonishment, saying that one might wonder whether these individuals belonged to a Pakistani institution or a developed country.

He stated that these problems within the PCB had been ongoing for years, with individuals taking charge through power and then doing whatever they pleased. This has led to the current deteriorating state of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

It’s important to note that Pakistan was hosting an ICC event for the first time in 29 years, but the national team was eliminated just four days into the tournament.

The Greenshirts faced defeats against New Zealand and traditional rivals India.

However, Pakistan was scheduled to play their final match of the tournament against Bangladesh today, but it was abandoned due to bad weather.
