Matthew Lawrence recently revealed that a “young” Ryan Reynolds was challenging to work with during the late 90s.

On his "Brotherly Love Podcast," the “Boy Meets World” actor discussed how Reynolds had disagreements with producers and the director on their 1998 film, "Boltneck," due to creative differences.

"He’d walk out — just kind of wanted to do his thing and the producers would get really upset," Lawrence, 45, shared in the episode.

“They even told him, ‘Ryan, this is a bad Jim Carrey impersonation. This is not what we hired you to do. You can’t impersonate somebody, you gotta do your own thing.'”

Lawrence, who starred in "Mrs. Doubtfire," added that Reynolds, 48, grew upset with the producers' feedback, responding, “I’m doing my thing.”

In “Boltneck,” Lawrence played a character named Frank Stein, a "science nerd" who brings Reynolds’ character back to life after he’s killed by bullies. Lawrence claimed that the producers wanted the movie to resemble a sci-fi thriller like “Donnie Darko,” but Reynolds was attempting to turn the script into something akin to "Deadpool."

“There was this major pull between one of the lead actors … so that is what my experience with Ryan Reynolds was,” the “Hot Chick” actor stated. “He obviously matured as a human being.”

Lawrence also mentioned being “privy to a meeting between the director” and Reynolds, revealing, “This crew, I think, had just been nominated for an Oscar, so they were kind of a big deal at that moment. Talk about frustrations on set with actors.”

Lawrence claimed the crew had written Reynolds off because of his alleged behavior, saying, “We had so much hope for this guy. He’s going nowhere,” which he found amusing considering Reynolds’ later rise to fame.

“They blamed that movie not working on him because they said there was this whole conflict,” Lawrence laughed, reflecting on the situation.

Lawrence shared this story while discussing Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s ongoing legal conflict, where Reynolds is reportedly involved.

Baldoni claimed in his lawsuit that Reynolds yelled at him aggressively after Baldoni inquired about Lively’s weight while filming “It Ends With Us.” Baldoni has since denied the allegations of “fat-shaming.”
