Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was accorded a guard of honour in Tashkent on Wednesday as he arrived at the Congress Centre to meet Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for high-level discussions.
The Uzbek leader received PM Shehbaz upon arrival, with both countries’ national anthems played before the prime minister reviewed a military guard alongside Mirziyoyev.
The two leaders introduced their respective delegations before proceeding to bilateral talks and delegation-level meetings, where discussions will focus on trade, investment, regional connectivity, security, and defence cooperation.
Pakistan and Uzbekistan are expected to sign multiple agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening ties across various sectors.
A joint press conference will follow the signing ceremony.
Later, PM Shehbaz will address the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum, where he will highlight investment opportunities and ways to enhance economic collaboration.
During his visit, the prime minister will also tour Tashkent’s Techno Park to observe Uzbekistan’s advancements in industrial and construction technology.
PM Shehbaz is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, and Investment Minister Abdul Aleem Khan.
Earlier this week, Pakistan and Azerbaijan agreed to increase bilateral investment to $2 billion, focusing on mutually beneficial projects.
The decision was made during talks between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev at the Presidential Palace in Baku on Monday.
Speaking at a joint news conference, PM said that all political parties in Pakistan are united in their efforts to strengthen ties with Azerbaijan. He stressed that the cordial relationship between the two countries should be expanded to include economic cooperation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed confidence that the Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) signed during the visit, along with agreements expected in April, will significantly contribute to future economic growth and mutual success.
He also highlighted the importance of strengthening defence relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, noting the commitment to joint manufacturing of defence equipment, which he believes will have far-reaching impacts.
