Trump’s bruised hand, seen during Macron’s visit, sparks speculation

A visible bruise on former President Donald Trump’s right hand has drawn attention online, with the White House attributing it to frequent handshakes.

The bruise was noticeable during Trump’s meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House on February 24. After images of the mark circulated widely on X, formerly Twitter, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the speculation, stating that Trump’s hand was bruised due to his constant engagement with the public.

“President Trump is a man of the people,” Leavitt told NBC News. “His commitment is unwavering, and he proves that every single day.” She added that he frequently shakes hands “all day, every day,” leading to the visible bruising.

This is not the first time Trump has responded to concerns about marks on his hand. During his 2024 Time Person of the Year interview, he provided a similar explanation, attributing past bruises to greeting thousands of people.

Despite public interest in his health, Trump’s medical records have not been released in recent years. While he disclosed them during his 2015 presidential campaign, he did not do so in 2024, despite earlier promises. His opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, published her medical records during the election to demonstrate her fitness for office, but Trump did not follow suit.

In November 2023, his personal physician issued a letter stating that Trump was in “excellent health.” However, with no further disclosures, speculation about his well-being persists.
