Court sends accused on four-day physical remand for further probe

RAWALPINDI:

Rawalpindi Judicial Magistrate Imran Qureshi has sent accused Sana Shafiq to Adiala Jail on a 14-day judicial remand in connection with the high-profile case of a 12-year-old domestic worker's death.

Her husband, Rashid Shafiq, the main accused, has been granted an additional four-day physical remand for further investigation. The investigation officer informed the court that Rashid Shafiq's DNA and polygraph tests need to be conducted at the Lahore forensic lab.

The court approved the additional remand, bringing the total physical custody period to 12 days.

Rashid Shafiq is to be presented in court again on February 25, while Sana Shafiq will be produced on March 7.

The couple is accused of killing their domestic worker, Iqra, for allegedly eating a 20-rupee chocolate meant for their daughter.

The young victim was later buried in her native village in Sargodha.

Meanwhile, the court has sought a complete case report before ruling on the bail request of a third suspect.
