In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Robert Davi, who portrayed Jake Fratelli in the 1985 cult classic The Goonies, expressed uncertainty about being included in the upcoming sequel to the beloved film.
While fans are excited about the project, with Steven Spielberg attached as producer, Davi raised concerns about whether his outspoken conservative views might prevent him from reprising his role.
Davi's portrayal of Jake Fratelli, the criminal son in the Fratelli family, remains iconic, and he frequently hears from fans of all ages who continue to love the character. Despite his passion for the film and its lasting impact, Davi worries that his political stance may be an obstacle for his involvement in Goonies 2. He shared that he’s experienced challenges with other projects in the past due to his outspoken beliefs, particularly his support for former President Donald Trump.
"I believe in free speech and not being politically correct all the time," Davi said, expressing concern that his political views could cost him a role in the sequel. He noted that director Richard Donner had once described the original film as the modern-day Wizard of Oz, a comparison that reflects the lasting cultural significance of The Goonies.
Davi’s political views extend beyond Hollywood, as he remains an advocate for Israel, transparency in government, and reducing waste in the U.S. government. He also praised Trump’s initiatives to revitalize Hollywood, specifically the appointment of Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone as Special Ambassadors to Hollywood.
While the sequel to The Goonies continues to develop, with director Potsy Ponciroli reportedly working on the script, Davi remains hopeful that he will get the chance to reprise his role in the future.
