Kim Kardashian is facing a lawsuit after a social media blunder involving a man named Ivan Cantu, who claims the reality star mistakenly identified him as a death row inmate.

According to the lawsuit obtained by TMZ, Cantu, a project manager from New York, alleges that Kardashian's February 2024 social media post caused him significant emotional distress and public embarrassment.

Kardashian had posted a photo of Cantu while trying to raise awareness for a death row case involving another Ivan Cantu, an inmate in Texas named Ivan "Abner" Cantu, who was ultimately executed.

Alongside the text and link to the petition, she also shared an image of Cantu which is seen here

After the reality TV star's post, Cantu, the New York project manager took to facebook to clarify that he was "not getting excuted" and that "some idiot who runs @kimkardashian" had posted a photo of the wrong person.

Cantu later told TMZ that the mix-up led to widespread ridicule, as fans believed he was the person in question, resulting in unwanted public attention, shame, and harm to his reputation.

The lawsuit accuses Kardashian of libel and slander, claiming that the incident caused him severe psychological distress, including sleep loss, headaches, nightmares, and symptoms of PTSD. He asserts that the emotional toll was so significant that it led to medical treatment and counseling.

Kardashian quickly took down the post once the mistake was discovered, but Cantu argues that the damage was already done, given her massive social media following.

Kim’s legal representative, Michael Rhodes, commented that the incident was a simple mistake, stemming from the use of a public photo of a man with the same name. He expressed a desire to resolve the matter without litigation but emphasized that Kardashian's legal team would defend her as needed.
