Meghan Markle’s latest business venture, a lifestyle brand named As Ever, has already sparked controversy just days after its announcement.
The Duchess of Sussex unveiled the brand on Instagram, describing it as an extension of her love for food, gardening, entertaining, and thoughtful living, with an official launch planned for Spring 2025. However, social media users were quick to point out that As Ever is already the name of an established New York-based clothing brand, founded in 2017.
The existing brand’s co-founder, Mark Kolski, responded with a statement on Instagram, acknowledging the surge of attention his business has received. He thanked supporters for their concern and made it clear that his brand has no affiliation with Meghan Markle’s venture. Kolski later revealed to Daily Mail that he learned about Markle’s announcement through a friend and is now seeking legal advice.
Criticism on social media quickly followed, with many accusing Markle of failing to conduct proper research before selecting a brand name.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “Meghan Markle stole their name! She never did a business search?”, while another said, “She tried to snatch their brand.” Others questioned whether a legal battle could arise over the use of the same name in different industries.
Markle has yet to respond to the backlash, and her representatives have not issued a statement regarding the dispute. Meanwhile, anticipation is building for her upcoming Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, which is set to premiere on March 4, following a delay due to Los Angeles wildfires.
