In a major security lapse at Central Jail Adiala, Rawalpindi, a suspect in a drug case managed to escape under mysterious circumstances, raising serious concerns about prison security.
Following the incident, Punjab IG Prisons, Mian Farooq Nazir, took notice and ordered an inquiry, seeking a report from DIG Jails Rawalpindi Region, Abdul Rauf Rana. He assured that efforts were underway to arrest the prisoner and warned of strict departmental action against those found negligent.
According to the sources, the escaped suspect, Luqman Masih, was arrested by Barakahu police, Islamabad, and transferred to Adiala Jail on Tuesday evening. However, during a routine barrack count, jail staff discovered his absence.
CCTV footage showed that the prisoner crossed three security doors, including the main gate, without resistance. It is suspected that he disguised himself as a labourer working on a project inside the jail.
Given that high-profile prisoners are housed in jail, security has remained on high alert. The escape has, however, raised serious concerns about security lapses.
