Fans are confused about the title of the highly anticipated film starring Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela, with significant ambiguity surrounding the matter among Bollywood enthusiasts.
The film, directed by Anurag Basu, has long been marketed as Aashiqui 3. However, despite teasers and promotional material calling it Aashiqui 3, the film has yet to officially carry the title.
The key reason for this confusion stems from a legal dispute involving Mukesh Bhatt, the producer of the first two Aashiqui films, and the current producers, Bhushan Kumar of T-Series.
As early as March 2024, the film was planned to be a solo venture by Bhushan Kumar, but complications arose when it was revealed that Bhatt had concerns about the use of the Aashiqui name.
The dispute culminated in a ruling by the Delhi High Court in September 2024, which prohibited T-Series from using the Aashiqui 3 title. The court's ruling cited that the public's confusion could be misleading, as T-Series had previously promoted the film as the third instalment of the Aashiqui franchise.
Further complicating the matter, reports suggest that Kartik Aaryan himself was keen on preserving the Aashiqui brand in the film's title, with the teaser even featuring the iconic track "Tu Hi Aashiqui Hai."
However, following the court’s ruling, it became clear that the makers of the film would have to find a workaround. While the music from the original films will still be featured in the new project, the title could not officially carry the Aashiqui name.
This has left fans and media alike questioning whether the film will be rebranded entirely, or if a compromise can still be reached. As it stands, the film remains untitled, with the official communication from T-Series confirming that it is still in the process of finalising the name.
Sources close to the project suggest that there are ongoing discussions to find an acceptable solution that satisfies both the legal constraints and creative desires of the filmmakers.
With the film slated for release in Diwali 2025, time is of the essence for T-Series, as the lack of an official title could delay critical promotional activities. The pressure is mounting to resolve the issue soon, especially given the film's release window and the need to capitalise on the anticipation that has been building for months.
Fans are still holding out hope that the beloved Aashiqui title will return in some form, though the final decision remains uncertain. For now, all eyes are on T-Series and the filmmakers to see how they will navigate this tricky situation and whether they will be able to keep the magic of Aashiqui alive in their new venture.
