Former Chicago White Sox closer Bobby Jenks, a two-time All-Star and 2005 World Series champion, is undergoing treatment for stomach cancer.

Jenks, 43, shared his diagnosis from a Portugal hospital bed in an interview with MLB.com on Saturday.

The White Sox extended their support on social media, posting, "We stand with you, Bobby Jenks."

Jenks, currently managing the minor league Windy City Thunderbolts in Crestwood, Illinois, hopes to recover in time for his second season in that role.

"Now it's time to do what I got to do to get myself better and get myself more time, however you want to look at it," Jenks told MLB.com. "I'll tell you one thing: I'm not going to die here in Portugal."

Jenks played a key role in the White Sox’s 2005 championship run, saving four games in six postseason appearances. He earned All-Star selections in 2006 and 2007, saving 81 games over those seasons. In 2007, he retired 41 consecutive batters, tying a record for a reliever.

Over six seasons with Chicago, Jenks recorded 173 saves before finishing his career with the Boston Red Sox in 2011.
