A wedding celebration turned into chaos when a young man was shot dead during his younger brother's henna ceremony in Chak 33 on Saturday.
The incident occurred when the victim, Umair Sarwar, was targeted by an armed assailant in front of family and friends.
As per the FIR registered at Saddar Mureedke police station, the attack took place during the wedding festivities of Abdul Rehman.
Amid the celebrations, Salman alias Mani, a resident of Bhayanwala Kalan, arrived on a motorcycle with an accomplice and opened fire on Sarwar, critically injuring him. The victim was rushed to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Mureedke, where he succumbed to his wounds. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Relatives revealed that Sarwar and the accused had a minor dispute in the past, prompting Sarwar's family to send him to Muscat for work to keep him safe from further conflicts. He had recently returned home on January 25 to attend his brother's wedding.
Village elders had attempted to reconcile the two parties, and Sarwar had even extended an invitation to Salman for the wedding. However, the accused seemingly held a grudge and carried out the fatal attack.
The police have registered a case on the complaint of the victim's brother, Faizan Ahmed, and have launched a search operation to apprehend the suspects.
