ISLAMABAD:

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has proposed utilising the existing six-kilometer highway up to the Barakahu Bypass and constructing a new four-kilometre extension beyond it to connect with the mega housing project "Margalla Enclave."

Following Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's directive to develop a five-minute highway from the Prime Minister's House to Margalla Enclave, a special team from the CDA's Planning Wing has completed site identification and submitted the proposal to CDA Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner Mohammad Ali Randhawa.

CDA sources told The Express Tribune that senior officials discussed the feasibility of the 10-kilometer-long highway, which requires significant investment and at least a year to complete.

To save costs and expedite construction, the proposal suggests building a parallel highway alongside the existing route from the Prime Minister's House to the Barakahu Bypass. This approach would reduce government expenditure by Rs6 to 8 billion.

Once completed, the new highway will provide a rapid connection between Margalla Enclave and the Prime Minister's House.
