Pakistan will be hosting its first major multi-country cricket tournament in nearly 30 years with the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. This will mark the first major international tournament held in Pakistan since the 1996 Cricket World Cup.

In addition to the Cricket World Cup, Pakistan previously hosted several major international sporting events, including the Hockey World Cup in 1990, the Hockey Champions Trophy in 1994, and the World Amateur Snooker Championship in 1993. The Pakistan Open also featured annually on the global squash calendar.

The ICC Champions Trophy was initially scheduled to be held in Pakistan in 2009, but due to security concerns and reluctance from other teams to travel, the tournament was relocated to South Africa the following year.
