Pakistan’s former cricket captain Babar Azam has found himself in the middle of a controversy after his mobile phone "loss" was revealed to be a marketing stunt.
Babar Azam had posted on his Instagram story claiming that his phone was lost or stolen, causing him to lose all his contacts.
However, the twist came when it was later revealed that the entire incident was part of a marketing campaign for a private company.
In the initial post, fans expressed concern and reassured Babar Azam, but the situation took a different turn when the cricketer revealed that the phone had been recovered and thanked his fans for their support, all with a laughing emoji added to the post.
While some fans enjoyed the prank, many were not pleased, expressing their frustration and urging Babar Azam to focus on his form instead of staging dramas.
Last week, Babar Azam shared with his fans that he has lost his mobile phone, creating a stir among fans and raising security concerns just days before the ICC Champions Trophy. The top-ranked batsman took to X to inform his followers about the unfortunate incident, expressing frustration over the loss.
In his tweet, Azam revealed that his phone had either been lost or stolen, along with all of his contact numbers. He urged fans to disregard any suspicious messages they might receive from his number and reassured them that he would reconnect once he is able to retrieve his phone and contacts.
The news quickly caught the attention of his fans, who expressed concern for the star cricketer and wished for the safe return of his phone. Many offered their support, while others took a more light-hearted approach to the situation.
One user, Nawaz, humorously speculated, "Dekho kisi journalist ne uthya ho ga [Perhaps a journalist stole his phone]," while another sarcastically referenced Azam’s recent struggles in cricket, saying, “Lost No. 4 position in TESTs, lost No. 3 position in ODIs, lost opening in T20I. Now lost mobile. Stay strong Babar bhai.”
On a more supportive note, user Kashif Farid encouraged Azam to focus on his batting, writing, “No worries king, just focus on your batting, Pakistan needs you.” Abdur, another supporter, offered words of comfort, saying, “This too shall pass, Stay strong.”
