HYDERABAD:

After compelling the Sindh police to send Hyderabad district police chief SSP Dr Farrukh Ali Lanjar packing, even on a leave, the lawyers have cautioned the government that they will not tolerate Lanjar to resume work in Hyderabad.

The Sindh High Court Bar Association, on Monday passed a resolution demanding that SSP Lanjar shall never be posted in Hyderabad again. "... the authorities shall ensure that he isn't assigned official duties within the jurisdiction in the future," reads the resolution signed by five office bearers of the bar including general secretary Irfan Ali Bughio.

On February 8, DIG Hyderabad Tariq Razzak granted leave of unspecified days to the SSP under pressure from the legal fraternity which took recourse to blocking the province's highways from February 6.

In a parallel development, Sindh IGP sought a judicial investigation of the matter which necessitated impounding a lawyer's car and booking the vehicle in an FIR by the police. "The SHCBA declares SSP Lanjar as persona non grata due to his misconduct, breaches of police rules, disregard of duty and action contrary to legal, moral and ethical principles which have already affected interests of the legal fraternity," reads the bar's resolution.
