Anthony Davis’ first game for the Dallas Mavericks ended early after he suffered a non-contact injury during their 116-105 victory over the Houston Rockets on Saturday.
Davis, acquired last week from the Los Angeles Lakers in a trade involving Luka Doncic, had a strong debut, recording 26 points, 16 rebounds, and seven assists before exiting late in the third quarter.
The 31-year-old fell to the floor clutching his lower body while attempting to defend a dunk by Alperen Sengun.
Despite Davis’ departure, the Mavericks secured the win with contributions from Klay Thompson and Kyrie Irving, who scored 13 points each.
Dallas led 65-48 at halftime but saw Houston cut the deficit to two in the third quarter before Naji Marshall and Irving helped seal the victory.
Davis downplayed concerns about his injury, saying, “My leg got tight, like a little spasm… But I managed to loosen it up, and it’s nothing serious. I’m fine.”
However, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Davis has suffered a left adductor strain and is expected to miss several weeks, ruling him out until after the NBA All-Star break.
He was selected as an All-Star for the 10th time but will be unable to participate.
The Mavericks next face the Denver Nuggets as they continue their season without their new star.
