Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce expressed excitement over President Donald Trump’s attendance at Super Bowl LIX, calling it a “great honor” despite his past criticism of Taylor Swift.

Trump is set to become the first sitting U.S. president to attend the Super Bowl when the Chiefs face off against the Philadelphia Eagles at Caesars Superdome on Feb. 9.

At a press conference on Feb. 5, Kelce responded to questions about the White House’s announcement. “That’s awesome,” he said. “It’s a great honor. No matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life.” He added, “Having the president there — it’s the best country in the world — and that’s pretty cool.”

Kelce’s comments come amid Trump’s longstanding public feud with Swift, who has openly opposed his administration. In 2024, she endorsed Kamala Harris over Trump and criticized his campaign’s use of AI-generated images falsely depicting her as a supporter. Trump later lashed out on Truth Social, writing, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”

Despite past remarks, Trump previously acknowledged Kelce, saying, “I like her boyfriend, Travis. Even though he may be a Liberal, and probably can’t stand me!”

With both Trump and Swift expected to attend the game, all eyes will be on the Super Bowl—not just for the action on the field but for potential off-field drama as well.
