Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan made his first public appearance on Monday since surviving a stabbing incident at his home last month.

The 54-year-old actor attended a Netflix event in Mumbai, promoting his upcoming heist thriller, Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins.

Saif had a visible cast and a bandage on his neck as he addressed the audience. “It feels very nice to be standing here in front of you. And it feels very nice to be here,” he said while discussing the film.

On 16 January, Saif was attacked at his Bandra residence in Mumbai by an intruder, later identified as Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad, who allegedly entered his home intending to commit theft. A violent altercation followed, during which the actor sustained stab wounds to his thoracic spine and other areas.

He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery. After receiving treatment, he was discharged four days later.

Following the attack, Saif’s wife, actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, released a statement calling it an “incredibly challenging day” for their family. She urged the media to respect their privacy, emphasising that excessive coverage risks their safety.

Saif chose to step back into the public eye, making his return at the Netflix slate announcement event. The actor was there to promote Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins, a high-stakes heist film in which he plays a master thief hired to steal the world’s most elusive diamond, The African Red Sun.

The film, directed by Robbie Grewal and Kookie Gulati, co-stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Kunal Kapoor, and Nikita Dutta. It marks Saif’s reunion with filmmaker Siddharth Anand, who previously worked on Salaam Namaste (2005) and Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007). The film is set for a direct release on Netflix.

Speaking about the film, Saif shared his enthusiasm, saying, “Siddharth and I have been talking about this film for a long time. I’ve always wanted to do a heist movie, and I couldn’t have asked for a better co-star.”

The upcoming March 2025 release of Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins will mark his first major project following the attack.

Earlier, Karan Johar announced that Ibrahim Ali Khan, the son of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, will make his acting debut in his upcoming Netflix film Nadaaniyan alongside Khushi Kapoor.

Although the release date for Nadaaniyan has not been confirmed, the anticipation surrounding Ibrahim's debut is already building. In addition to Nadaaniyan, Ibrahim Ali Khan has two other projects in the pipeline, Sarzameen and Diler, both of which are expected to showcase his acting skills further.
