Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani has said that new graveyards will be built in Karachi and a government authority will be formed to improve the management of burial spaces.
He acknowledged that education and healthcare are the state's responsibilities but emphasised the lack of resources. However, welfare organisations are providing significant assistance, which is commendable.
He expressed these views while addressing the inauguration ceremony of a mortuary under Al-Mustafa Welfare Society on Sunday. The ceremony was also addressed by the patron-in-chief of the Society, former federal minister Haji Muhammad Hanif Tayyab, member of Sindh Assembly Asif Musa and others.
Earlier, the provincial minister inaugurated a modern mortuary with a capacity for 19 bodies. During his speech, Saeed Ghani praised Al-Mustafa Welfare Society for its long-standing charitable work. He highlighted that, under the leadership of Haji Muhammad Hanif Tayyab, the organisation has gained recognition not only in Pakistan but globally for its welfare initiatives. The society currently operates five hospitals, 15 clinics, 22 schools, and has also established a senior citizen home.
Earlier this week, Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah directed Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi to identify at least 2,500 acres of land in Karachi for graveyards. At a meeting held on Thursday, the CS instructed Commissioner to formally refer the matter to the Revenue Department for suitable land allocation for graveyards.
