A sessions court on Saturday sentenced a man for brutally murdering his parents by setting them on fire over a family dispute. Additional District and Sessions Judge Farhat Jabeen awarded the suspect two life sentences and a fine of Rs600,000.
The court declared the crime a heinous act andsentencied the convicted criminal, after which he was transferred to Adiala Jail.
Waseem's younger brother Ahsan Shehzad lived with his family on the upper floor, while he lived with their elderly parents on the ground floor. The incident was reported on June 9, 2022, when Waseem's younger brother complained to the Dhamyal police.
The convict's wife had left for her parental home after a domestic dispute. Waseem had been pressuring his parents to convince his wife to return. However, his elderly parents, unable to move easily, suggested that Waseem himself visit her family to bring her back.
Enraged by this, Waseem set his mother Rafat Bibi and father Shabbir Ahmed on fire while they were sleeping by spraying petrol on them late at night.
Upon hearing the commotion, the younger son rushed downstairs, only to find his parents burning in their beds. Waseem fled upon seeing his brother.
The younger son managed to separate them from the fire, and the neighbours gathered upon hearing the cries for help. A Rescue 1122 team arrived and rushed the victims to Holy Family Hospital, but both victims succumbed to their injuries. The medical report confirmed that the cause of death was burns.
After the offence was proven, the court sentenced Waseem to two life terms. The convict had been apprehended after fleeing to his in-laws' house.
