A storm system moving through the Dallas-Fort Worth area is expected to bring heavy rain, scattered showers, and thunderstorms, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a flood watch for parts of North Texas, including Collin, Dallas, Denton, Rockwall, and Tarrant counties.

The flood watch began at 6 pm Wednesday and is set to expire Thursday morning.

The advisory warns of the potential for flash flooding in low-lying, flood-prone areas due to excessive runoff. Periods of dry weather will be interrupted by spotty showers throughout the day Wednesday.

Rainfall totals are forecast to range between 1 and 3 inches across most of North Texas, with isolated areas receiving between 5 and 7 inches, especially in parts of Dallas-Fort Worth and areas to the northeast.

Some storms have the potential to become strong to severe, though the risk remains low.

The weather service also predicts dreary conditions, with cloud cover and patchy fog throughout Wednesday. Travel and outdoor activities may be impacted by the heavy rain and flash flood risk.

After the storms clear, the weekend will bring warmer weather, with high temperatures expected to be well above normal. Dallas-Fort Worth temperatures are forecast to reach the mid-70s by Sunday, with parts of Central Texas possibly hitting the 80s.
