Tim McGraw has stepped down from his role as the lead in Netflix’s upcoming untitled rodeo series due to health concerns.

According to Deadline, the country music star and actor, originally announced as both the star and executive producer of the drama, will undergo back surgery, requiring time for recovery. McGraw recently had orthopedic surgery on both knees in August after an injury sustained during his 2024 tour, which led to the cancellation of remaining concert dates.

The role McGraw was set to play is physically demanding, revolving around a bull riding megastar facing a life-changing crisis when a young, fearless rider challenges his methods and brings up buried secrets. Due to McGraw's need for further surgery, the role will be recast, allowing the project to continue.

The future of the series, which is produced by Skydance Television and McGraw’s Down Home, remains uncertain, with sources speculating about recasting. Representatives for Netflix and Skydance declined to comment.
