PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has decided to dismiss more than 16,000 government employees recruited by the caretaker government.

A draft law in this regard has been presented in the provincial assembly. Similarly, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Code of Criminal Procedure Bill, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Universities Bill, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Sharia Justice Regulation Bill, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Public Financial Management Bill and the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Regulatory Force Bill 2025 have also been tabled in the house.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government had decided to dismiss the government employees recruited by the caretaker government. The provincial cabinet has approved the decision and assigned the responsibility of collecting details of recruitments from all departments to the law minister.

According to sources, up to 8,000 recruitments have been identified in the details provided by various departments, including the police and health departments.

The provincial government has prepared a draft law for the immediate removal of these employees which was presented in the assembly on Friday.

The bill prepared for the dismissal of employees has been named the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Employees Removal from Service Bill 2025.

According to the legislation, employees who had been illegally recruited by the caretaker government will be dismissed from their jobs. After the approval of the bill, the relevant institutions and departments will issue notifications for the dismissal of the employees.

The bill states that a six-member committee will be formed under the chairmanship of the Establishment Secretary which will consist of the Advocate General, the Law, Finance and Administration Departments, and other relevant secretaries.

The committee will also review the possible complications arising in this regard.

The provincial government has also presented the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Regulatory Force Bill 2025 in the house. Under the bill, a Regulatory Force will be established to implement regulatory laws in various sectors and prevent their violations, with its head office to be established in Peshawar.

The force will have wide-ranging powers like those given to police officers and will implement laws dealing with environmental protection, food safety, price control and other regulatory sectors, and prevent their violations.

Regulatory force units will be established in each district of the province which will be led by a Director General (DG) having a term of appointment of three years.

The Chief Minister, however, could appoint the DG for a shorter or longer period.
