Hugh Grant and Piers Morgan clash over the UK government’s decision to drop the Leveson inquiry reopening.

Grant, known for his advocacy against media intrusion, voiced his disappointment during a BBC Radio 4 interview. He said, “I have some sympathy, when I’m in a generous mood, for politicians terrified of the Murdochs.” The comment led Piers Morgan to respond on X (formerly Twitter), labeling Grant a “hypocrite.”

Morgan tweeted: “REMINDER: Hugh Grant took many millions of pounds from Rupert Murdoch to make movies for him. #hypocrite.”

Grant immediately countered, denying any recent involvement with Murdoch-owned companies. “Bulls**t. The last time I worked for a Murdoch-owned company was in 1994,” he tweeted. “Since then, I have turned down every single job offer from them.”

Grant has been vocal in his fight against unethical media practices. He previously settled claims against News of the World for phone hacking in 2012 and against The Sun in 2024.

This clash follows a tense exchange between Grant and Morgan at the 2023 Oscars, where Morgan criticized Grant’s film roles and a viral interview with Ashley Graham.

The renewed feud underscores their ongoing rivalry and divergent stances on media ethics, keeping both figures at the center of public attention.

This debate is yet another chapter in the broader discussion of accountability and transparency in the media industry.
