ISLAMABAD:

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology has approved the Digital Nation Pakistan Amendment Bill 2024 by majority vote amid opposition and concerns over the haste in passing the law.

Ten members voted in favour, while six opposed the bill. Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, who tabled the bill last month, stressed the need for digital transformation to address core public issues, reduce financial fraud and tackle growing national cybersecurity threats.

The committee, chaired by Syed Aminul Haque, deliberated on the proposed bill before the final vote.
