The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police have devised performance indicators to improve the efficiency of all police divisions.
The right-sizing of personnel and proper utilisation of resources in all federal police units has already been implemented. Future postings will be based solely on departmental expertise and experience, and further punishments will be imposed for incompetence, with no room for leniency. These views were expressed by Islamabad police chief Syed Ali Naqvi Rizvi during a conference of police operational commanders at Safe City Islamabad on Wednesday. All DIGs, AIGs, SSPs, and SPs attended the conference.
The capital's IGP said that in the last 15 days, he conducted visits to all police units and audited their performance, reviewing the functioning of all establishments within the units.
After several weaknesses were identified, he said, some performance indicators have been introduced for each unit to address the weaknesses. Rizvi emphasised that the right-sizing of personnel and proper resource utilisation is now in effect, and reports from independent sources will be obtained for each unit.
Going forward, each police division will be overseen by the respective DIGs, commanders are required to assess the performance of their subordinates weekly, while Zonal SPs will personally hear cases from complainants of serious crimes.
The IG reprimanded officers with poor performance, particularly those in the city zone, directing them to improve their work. He also highlighted the need to significantly enhance the quality of investigations.
He made it clear that future postings would be based solely on sector-specific expertise and experience, while officers involved in corruption, misconduct, and incompetence would face departmental penalties with no exceptions. Officers demonstrating excellent performance would be awarded commendations and rewards, the capital city police chief said.
