Late arrival of secretary irks standing committee members

PESHAWAR:

The absence and tardiness of senior officials of government departments in meetings of provincial Assembly's standing committees has become almost routine.

Assembly members have strongly protested against the attitude.

The members of the K-P Assembly's Standing Committee on Energy and Power have also expressed their displeasure over the absence of the department's secretary on Wednesday.

An important meeting of the Standing Committee was held with Dawood Shah in the chair. It was attended by Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Arbab Usman, MPA Arbab Zarak Khan, MPA Shafi Jan, MPA Mehboob Sher, MPA Taj Muhammad Tarand, MPA Rehana Ismail, MPA Adnan Khan, MPA Gul Ibrahim and MPA Abdul Salam.

Despite the significance of the meeting's agenda, the Secretary of Energy arrived an hour and a half late.

Chairman Dawood Shah expressed his displeasure over the occurrence, adjourned the meeting in protest, and announced he would move a privilege motion against the Secretary.
