Chris Evans spoiled Anthony Mackie's new Captain America role in surprise moment

Anthony Mackie recently shared how he learned that he would be taking over the role of Captain America from Chris Evans in the upcoming film Captain America: A Brave New World. In an interview with Fandango published on January 17, Mackie recalled the moment when Evans revealed the news. The two actors were at Evans’ house, casually watching a game and chatting, when Evans asked Mackie if he had read the new script for the film.

At first, Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson (a.k.a. Falcon) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, feared the worst. Having already taken on the Captain America shield in Avengers: Endgame, he thought the script might indicate his character was being written off. “Being Black, I’m like, ‘I’mma die, damn. They’re getting rid of me,’” Mackie explained, joking about his initial concern.

However, Evans then took him to his “man cave” and revealed the new script, pointing to a scene where Evans’ character, Steve Rogers, passes the shield to Sam Wilson, confirming that Mackie’s character would become the new Captain America. "You’re f--king Captain America," Evans told him. The moment was filled with joy and excitement, with Mackie describing it as a sweet and memorable experience. “We hug, we jump up and down,” he said, reflecting on the heartwarming reveal.

As Captain America: A Brave New World approaches its release on February 13, Mackie is excited to show audiences why he’s ready to take on the iconic superhero role, joining a cast that includes Harrison Ford, Seth Rollins, Danny Ramirez, and Rosa Salazar.
