PM orders priority work on key motorways

Shehbaz forms steering committee for projects in Sindh, Balochistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday ordered the formation of a steering committee to review the ongoing work related to the construction of the motorways and highways in Sindh, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B).

Chairing a review meeting on issues pertaining to the National Highway Authority (NHA), the prime minister was briefed on the ongoing development works on national highways and the motorways. He directed that the development work should be carried out on a priority basis.

He directed for forming the committee on the construction of Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway, Ratodero-Gwadar Motorway and Hyderabad-Karachi Motorway, Karachi-Quetta-Chaman National Highway, and reconstruction of some parts of the Karakoram Highway.

The meeting was briefed regarding the ongoing development works on national highways and motorways. In a another meeting about safety arrangements on the highways, Shehbaz directed for completing repair of all damaged protective fences on the motorways in one month.

The meeting was informed that there were 4,027 kilometres of protective fencing on the motorways across the country, out of which 859 kilometres of protective fence was either stolen or damaged. The prime minister directed for improving policing and patrolling on the highways.

Chairing a meeting to review the preparations for Hajj 2025, the prime minister directed for deputing capable officials with good repute for the Hajj duties this year. He said the best possible training facility should be provided to the pilgrims.

Chairing another meeting regarding the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Shehbaz directed the authorities to prepare a comprehensive report for the construction of new modern hotels and other facilities through joint ventures and public-private partnerships (PPP) to promote tourism in the country.

"With the availability of modern facilities, tourism will be promoted across the country", the prime minister said. He emphasised the need for further improving hotels, hospitals, and other facilities to host international-level conferences and events in the country.

Shehbaz appreciated the performance of the CDA for successfully organising the recent international conferences and other events in the federal capital. "The initiation of international conferences in Pakistan is the certificate of our success on the diplomatic front," he said. (WITH INPUT FROM APP)
