Chrissy Teigen proposes social media curfew amid TikTok ban drama: "Life was great before"

Chrissy Teigen has proposed a plan to limit social media usage as part of an effort to reduce its influence on daily life. In a series of Instagram Stories posted on January 19, Teigen, 39, shared her vision for a nationwide rule that would shut off social media between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

“I personally think that one day there will be the most incredible rule,” Teigen said in the video, filmed from her bed. “I think the government, or some kind of ethics committee — somebody — should shut off social media between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.” She emphasized that this approach would allow people to continue using social media during the day, but with clear boundaries to ensure healthier use.

Teigen reassured younger audiences who may be struggling to imagine life without social media, explaining that "life was great" before its widespread influence. "It’s very doable," she added, acknowledging her own presence on social media but stressing the importance of not letting it dominate lives.

Her comments come amidst growing concerns over the impact of social media, especially after the temporary shutdown of TikTok in the U.S. on January 18. The platform went dark ahead of a potential ban on the Chinese-owned app, leaving users with a message stating that a law banning TikTok had been enacted. The service was restored the following day.

Teigen’s proposal for a social media curfew highlights the ongoing debate over digital well-being and the balance between connectivity and personal health. While some agree with her perspective, others continue to question the implications of government-mandated limits on online access.
