On Monday, Instagram announced that it is launching a new video editing app called 'Edits' that comes with advanced editing tools, including AI-generated captions and animations, filters, overlays and the ability to produce 10-minute videos in 1080p resolution.
Instagram head, Adam Mosseri, took to Threads to post about the launch of the new app that has particularly been designed for users who are "who are passionate about making videos” on their smartphones.
The app reportedly simplifies the process by enabling capture of high-quality footage and quick editing, allowing creators to export videos without a watermark and share them across platforms. The app also includes a new tab that lets users keep track of all their drafts and videos in one place.
Additional features include improved flash and zoom controls and AI capabilities such as animation and captions. The app also lets users change their backgrounds with a green screen or add a video overlay.
Creators will also have access to a wide range of typefaces, sound and voice effects, filters for videos, stickers, and other elements. Edits is also able to enhance audio to remove the background noise and deliver clearer audio.
On top of all this, content created and shared through the app can be tracked with a live insights dashboard which provides creators with a breakdown of engagement for followers and non-followers and provides metrics such as skip rate.
The Edits app is currently available for pre-order for iOS on the App Store and will be on Android shortly. It is expected to be available for download in February.
