President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump on Thursday appointed actors Mel Gibson, Sylvestor Stallone and Jon Voight as his 'Special Envoys' to 'troubled' Hollywood. By designating the role to three of his long-time supporters, Trump aims to revive the industry.

"They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!", Trump posted, outlining his goals on Truth Social

Although their official duties are not clear as yet, Trump said that the trio will serve as his "eyes and ears” in the movie industry as he plans to herald in "The Golden Age of Hollywood".

After COVID-19, there has been a noticeable slump in US box office receipts with overall US TV and movie production going down 26% from 2021, according to data from the platform ProdPro Additionally, the 2023 writers and acttors strike .

Stallone, Gibson and Voight are all vocal endorsers of Trump, unlike the majority of Hollywood celebrities, who overwhelmingly supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
Among them, the three have referred to Trump as the "second George Washington" and “greatest president since Abraham Lincoln" whilst bashing Harris.

Trump's term as the 47th president starts on Monday after which he can set his plans in motion, although it is unclear if the trio will be present at his inauguration in Washinton D.C.to see him take office.
