Liam Payne's father, Geoff Payne, is being sued for $10 million for defamation by Rogelio "Roger" Nores, a close friend of the late singer.
The lawsuit claims Nores has been unfairly made a scapegoat for Payne's tragic death. Nores, who was one of the last people to see Payne alive before his fatal fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on October 16, 2024, was charged with manslaughter last month.
The lawsuit, filed in Palm Beach, Florida, accuses Geoff Payne of making false statements to police investigators, which allegedly led to Nores' arrest. According to Nores, Geoff falsely claimed he and Liam’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, were responsible for his care, and that Nores had withheld information from a psychiatrist. Nores denies these accusations, stating he was never Liam's caretaker and had no legal duty towards him.
Nores further contests Geoff’s assertion that Liam could not be left alone, and that he had no phone, describing these claims as completely fabricated. The lawsuit claims that Geoff's false statements severely damaged Nores' reputation, both locally and internationally.
Nores has demanded a retraction and correction of these statements from Geoff Payne. The lawsuit also outlines that the false claims were the direct cause of the charges against him. Nores intends to donate all net financial proceeds from the legal action to Liam's son, Bear.
